Avena Botanicals Herb Garden Walk #3
Follow Deb Soule, herbalist and biodynamic herb gardener, for this third in our series of virtual herb walks through the magical gardens at Avena Botanicals in Rockport, Maine.
In this video, find yourself enchanted by the activity that is buzzing and humming throughout the gardens in late summer. Avena is a true sanctuary garden that is home to thousands of medicinal plants, native bees, numerous pollinators, ruby throated hummingbirds, butterflies (including the delightful monarch), and over sixty identified songbirds. Deb will speak to over a dozen medicinal and pollinator plants -- describing the healing qualities, flower essence properties, best ways to cultivate, harvest, and use these plants, as well as the pollinators that favor them.
You will be introduced to the grounding and centering properties of one of Deb's favorite flowers -- a plant of great importance in these turbulent and stressful times, helping us all to live our lives more presently. She will introduce us to one of the favorite plants of the hummingbirds that you, too, can plant in order to attract more of these extraordinary tiny birds.
Deb will also honor and recognize the generosity of indigenous women who have shared with settlers the healing properties of a beloved plant that is at risk due to overharvesting, development, and logging of its native habitat, but is an herb that is easily cultivated for our home gardens.
You will become acquainted with a magical plant used for dreaming and calling in the energy of the moon, and while speaking of this plant’s magic... a hummingbird will visit.
Be inspired by the ways in which the plants volunteer themselves and teach you how they desire to be tended and where they desire to be planted. Deb will speak to the deep connections that plants have in nature, with the body, and with the spirit, as well as their deep connection to the many beings that rely on them for pollen and nectar.
Featured plants include: Wood Betony, Black Cohosh, Marshmallow, Calendula, Echinacea, Holy Basil, California Poppy, Skullcap, and many, many more.
All of our virtual herb walks for the 2021 season are available on demand, allowing you to watch them at your own convenience. Tickets are available on a sliding scale basis ($5-15 per person). This video is about 70 minutes long.
